Scribe For L.A. Wed. 12/20/06

December 20, 2006

If you need to know what went on in L.A. on this day, read on because it Will say. In L.A. this day Mrs. Ekstrom informed all the classes that we are going to start a new book genre, fantasy. Most people including myself were overjoyed at the sound of this. Everyone was also informed that last year when Mrs. Ekstrom did the wonderful genre of fantasy the entire grade read a book called The Giver. Mostly every student in my class jumped to the conclusion of that we would have to do this. Fortunately this was not the case. We have the choice of two different books to read from The Giver and Mrs. Frisby and the Rat Of Nimph. We would have more choices but the other fantasies Mrs. E had most kids have read in past grades. Our teacher was not happy about this. after giving us our choices she passed out a paper were we wrote down our first and second pick. We had no choice of our second pick since there are only two books we can pick. All the students were informed that Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimph was a clear fantasy and good. The Giver was told to be a bit science fiction and needs some thought to read. It is also Mrs. Ekstroms favorite of the two. I would personally recommend The Giver even though I have not read it. The author of it is gited.

Ziggy,the Stowaway Kitty

December 12, 2006

For exciting news a cat named Ziggy was stuck in a shipping container on a boat traveling 2,300 miles from England to Israel. This was a 17 day long trip! Imagine going 17 days without food or water in a box. Ziggy certainly went through alot. James Ratcliff of the Royal Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals said,”He was scared to death.”

The sun starts to shine

Winter is at it’s sad end

The snow melts away

The rivers thaw and flow

Spring is on it’s good old way

Safety Nets

December 12, 2006

You have probably been hearing about the west nile virus but another dangerous disease brought by mosquitoes is malaria. When a mosquito bites you a parasite in it’s gut and saliva can enter your bloodstream. After this the infected person will get sick with symptoms of the flu. If the infected person is not treated the parasite can get to your brain and turn the disease deadly. This disease is most common in Africa. 1,000,000 people die every year of malaria. Because of

this a mosquito killing pesticide called DDT was made. Unfortunately DDT was discovered to harm other wildlife so it could not be used. Mosquitoes with the malaria disease are most likely to bite at night so people are putting up bed nets. If nets are dipped in insecticide every six months it will kill insects that land on it. A drugs called artemisinins can cure malaria but a vaccine is better for the job so scientists are working on it.

A Good Piece Of Encouragement

December 10, 2006

I just want to point out to people that only write in their blogs the assignments Mr. H gives us that they should write more than that. Blogs are fun and give you something to do. The list of things to write about are endless. Look at all the posts I have written. You shouldn’t think of blogs as homework. It might be a bit like homework but it’s fun. Be sure to leave comments because they make people feel good. Some people write fun posts were they ask questions were you have to do research and answer them in a comment. I have written those posts and so has Emily K. on her blog. So come on people who just look, write!

A Part Of Chapter Two In Doomed

December 10, 2006

This is a part of chapter two in the story I am writing called Doomed. If you haven’t read chapter one you should. Go to the bottom of my page and click on next page to see more posts I put up. I just have two pages because I wrote so much.So now here is my story.Kyle and I met in kindergarten but didn’t become best friends till fourth grade. I don’t know how we suddenly became friends but we did. My name is Kevin Aces. Kyle was always fit and healthy. He was always far ahead of me on the track when we ran a mile. Every time we ran that’s how it went until one day he was slower and looked paler. The day after that I finished the mile before him.I was worried and went up to talk to him.”Kyle are you okay?”, I asked him with a look of fear for him.”I feel fine.”, he answered without any voice change. If there was a bit of voice change I could tell he was lying. I left things alone after that until he started looking thinner and so white it was as if he was a snow person. I knew he had to notice the changes in his appearance and I know that he is too young to be going through puberty. That might be a bit of a gross word but that’s what was going through my mind. I looked for Kyle the very next day at school but he was absent. I went through the day hoping he was okay. Kyle wasn’t at school for the rest of the week. Because of this I called his house. His dad said I could come over. After I hung up the phone I got my mom to drive me over to his house as quick as possible. I rushed inside when we went up his driveway. Kyle was lying on the sofa and said “Kevin I’m sick. Very sick.
